I started playing the violin at the age of three. How could music not be my destiny?
Simple Questions
It speaks volumes when people ask me “Where can I get your music? Can I get it on itunes?” or something similar. It tells me they take my craft seriously and had every intentions of purchasing it. I don’t think the people who’ve asked me similar questions realize how much those words meant to me, but it really means more than they could ever understand.
I’m one of those people who asks 3-5 people for the same thing/ favor. It’s the only way it will get done. So if I ask you to do something, (and you’re capable of doing it) and you don’t (if you tell me you would) and I’m actually upset/hurt, it’s because I trusted that you were the only person I had to ask.
The Beauty of it All
The beauty of the current state of the industry is that it now forces artists to become smarter about the ways in which they spend their money by being aware of what it takes to be a successful artist.
Back in the day, artists let labels and their teams determine who spent what, trusting them to make these decisions for them, and thus had no clue of what was needed and what was superfluous.
Today, we are forced to use our own budgets and thus figure out when and where to allocate our funds. May it be marketing, distribution, studio time, engineering, production, styling, publicity, shows, etc. before we even think about a label (if anyone is still thinking about a label)
We complain about the state of the industry, but it really works to our benefit, as artists, to understand all these aspects of what goes into building an artist. Some people think we’re in an ugly time for music. But I think it’s beautiful.
The Chasing Game.
Sometimes we chase and we chase and we chase after something we think we want, only to find that what we enjoyed the most, was simply the chase.
